In honor of tomorrow’s Ice Cream Party, this week’s idiom is “cream of the crop” which means “best of the best” or “best of all.”
For example, “The Academy Awards pick movies that are the cream of the crop.”
It is related to the French phrase crème de la crème (literally “cream of the cream”), and comes from the fact that cream is the richest part of milk and sits on top.
